The Duchess (2008)

It reminds me of Marie Antoinette, but the Duchess is a more political and inspirational film, and it ends more abruptly than M.A.... it makes me wonder... were all aristo women back in that time acting like that?
one thing I'm quite disappointed with this film is that Keira is being typecast as period drama heroines, although her ethereal beauty is cut out for those roles, but I'd be more happy to see her in modern films.

The Duchess is not those girlish movies like M.A., it's about politics, love and marriage in a more grown up sense. The most intriguing thing that astonishes me is the menage a trois among Georgiana, her husband and her best friend. What is, seriously, the problem with this couple? Doesn't she has the power to drive away her friend from their house?! Georgiana has to take the blame for some reasons that she can't give up her friend for her marriage. what a sensible woman...

i loved this film, and it is a very different one to MA. they were focussing on different things, the directors had different visions... the duchess was a whole period film, the kind of movie i think people thought MA would be, whereas MA was more retrospective, imaginative creation world of versailles... and i loved it for it, i mean, wasn't all that 80s music the best soundtrack? sofia coppola is a genius, really.

but back to the duchess, i thought individually the acting performances were superb. the film as a whole was missing something, i think the editing was really weird, and it could have been made more seamless. but wasn't keira fabulous though? i would like to see her in modern things too, i think she's filming one now with guillame canet called 'the last night' or something, but i think she is just so suited to period drama. she was fabulous in this movie, just wow.... the best i've ever seen her.

and poor georgiana, right? i would hate to have been in a relationship like that, your best friend and your husband.... and then them staying a couple in your own house. AWKWARD! and horrible for her. the poor girl.

a great movie though, lots of fun.
and a good sex scene between KK and Dominic Cooper (melt) right? hahahaha.
